Abstract
Observations were made on the respiratory responses evoked by stimulation of points within the pons and midbrain of 15 cats. Characteristic inspiratory responses were evoked from that portion of the tegmentum thought to be the site of the pneumotaxic centers. The suggestion that the cells of the nucleus of the locus caeruleus form a major part of each pneumotaxic center is presented. The significance of the fact that the pneumotaxic center yields inspiratory responses on stimulation is discussed. Keywords
