Abstract
The possibility of enhancing tumor cell antigenicity by chemically attaching tubercle bacillus purified protein derivative (PPD) as an immunogenic carrier determinant into the tumor cell surface was explored. Multiple immunizations with PPD-coupled tumor cells [B10 sarcoma] did potentiate a marked anti-tumor response even to tumors that were very weakly antigenic. Such immunizations could be used to retard tumor growth in previously unimmunized animals. An attempt was made to elucidate the important factors involved when PPD heterogenized tumor cells are used for immunization.
