Abstract
Salicylate caused almost complete disappearance of creatine phosphate after 15 minutes incubation and reduced ATP to a constant low level, while it increased the inorganic phosphate of the isolated rat diaphragm. It is suggested that salicylate interferes with oxidative phosphorylation reactions and that the impairment of production of energy-rich phosphate bonds explains the various effects of salicylates on carbohydrate metabolism. Keywords
