Abstract
Most of the known reactions of the tricarboxylic acid cycle are demonstrated in S. coelicolor with intact cells and extracts. Reactions shown include the incorporation of C14 from acetate[long dash]2[long dash]C14 into alpha-ketoglutarate, the oxidation of glucose, citrate, alpha-ketoglutarate, .succinate, fumarate, and malate, the decarboxylation of oxalacetate, the quantitative conversion of malate to pyruvate, the conversion of alpha-ketoglutarate to succinate, and the synthesis by cell-free extracts of citrate from pyruvate (or acetate) and malate. It is concluded that the cycle functions in this organism; no assessment of its quantitative importance is attempted.Keywords
