LYMPHOSARCOMA: THE EFFECTS OF THERAPY AND SURVIVAL IN 1,269 PATIENTS IN A REVIEW OF 30 YEARS' EXPERIENCE

Abstract
Analysis has been made of this large group of histologically verified cases of lymphosarcoma, with at least 5 years'' follow up. The median age is 49.7 years; males predominate 1.7 to 1.0. Differentiation from lymphatic leukemia is arbitrary; leukemic changes were noted in 7.6% of cases. Radiation therapy remains the most satisfactory means of treatment. Radical surgery does not provide as frequent long survivals as does radiation. No increase in survival can be demonstrated over a period of 25 years, despite the addition of antibiotics, steroids and alkylating agents to the therapeutic program of conventional radiation therapy. The over all 5 year survival rate from clinical onset of disease is 28.4% with a median survival of 26.4 months.
