Abstract
An expression for the integrated surface charge of a semiconductor-vacuum interface is derived in terms of phase shifts in the one-electron approximation. For a semi-infinite one-dimensional Kronig-Penney model the charge is quantized and obeys a simple phase rule involving the surface charge and the number of surface states split from the band. Keywords
