Abstract
After the admn. of ACTH to 25 patients, the urinary corticoid and 17-ketosteroid excretion rose, beginning on the 1st day of injn. and reaching a maximum on the 3-5th day. The maximum reached with any dose varied from patient to patient; and in any given patient the maximum was roughly proportional to the log. dose. The minimum effective dose for children is 5-6 mg./24 hrs., and for adults 12-14 mg./24 hrs. After 9-10 days of ACTH treatment the urinary corticoid excretion falls. After 40-70 days, no corticoid response occurred in 2 patients, even with increased dosage.
