Abstract
The acetone-dried cells of human tubercle baciilus (Aoyama strain) were defatted by ether-alcohol and chloroform, incubated with 0.1 [image] HC1 at 37[degree]C for 72 hours, extracted with alcohol-ether (1:1), the residue extracted with chloroform, followed by column chromatography on silica gel, silicic acid, and Florisil, successively. A new untoxic glycolipid was eluted from Florisil column by ether-methanol (9:1), while the known toxic glycolipid was recovered by elution with ether-methanol (8:2). Chemical analysis of the alkaline hydrolyzates of the new glycolipid (m. p. 53-55[degree]C) indicated D-arabinose mycolate structure. Keywords
