Abstract
The first results of an eleven-state R-matrix calculation on electron-helium scattering are presented. The resonance structure near the n=3 states of helium is examined and resonance parameters calculated. There is good agreement with recent experimental observations of the 23S and 21S metastable-state excitation cross sections. Earlier five-state calculations are shown to have significantly overestimated these cross sections above 22 eV.Keywords
