Abstract
By means of counter-current distribution, paper strip electrophoresis and paper chromatography, substances which react positively with NaOH, phosphoric acid and ninhydrin were isolated from aqueous adrenal cortical extracts. The UV-absorption spectrum showed a peak in the region of 240 m[mu]. The N content was approximately 3%. In an electric field at pH 7.5, the substances with one exception migrated in the anodic direction. The purified fractions were inactive in the life maintenance test. The substances are postulated to be alpha, beta-unsaturated steroids with an additional exocyclic amino acid.
