Abstract
Pathogenic micro‐organisms isolated from West African grasshoppers (Acrididae) included entomopoxviruses, protozoa, fungi, and a rickettsia. Entomopoxviruses were isolated from Cataloipus fuscocoerulipes (Krauss), C. cymbiferus (Krauss), Oedaleus senegalensis (Krauss), O. nigeriensis Uvarov, Krassaria angulifera (Krauss) and Heteracris annulosus (Walker). Two species of microsporidia (Protozoa) were isolated from Acorypha glaucopsis (Walker), K. angulifera, O. senegalensis, O. nigeriensis, Hieroglyphus daganensis Krauss and Acrida bicolor (Thunberg). The amoebic protozoan Malameba locustae (King & Taylor) was observed in O. senegalensis and Diabolocatantops axillaris (Thunberg). A yeast‐type fungus, observed in O. senegalensis and an undetermined Anacridium sp., was isolated from Aiolopus thalassinus (Fab.), A rickettsia was isolated from Zonocerus variegatus (L.).Keywords
