Abstract
Male patients (18) between the ages of 25-50 were given on a double blind randomized basis either 40 g galactose, 50 g arabinogalactan and 0.11 g sodium saccharin, 2 g methyl cellulose and 0.083 g sodium saccharin or 4 g galactose, all in 200 ml water. Blood glucose, galactose and insulin levels were determined during a 6 h period before and after ingestion. The 3 first mentioned solutions tasted equally sweet, the 4th was essentially tasteless. None of these feedings altered plasma insulin or glucose levels. Sweet taste is apparently unable to induce insulin secretion through neurogenic pathways. This publication has 18 references indexed in Scilit:
