Abstract
The experimental magnetoelastic properties of antiferromagnetic Mn are found in certain specific instances to be completely inconsistent with the usual small-strain magnetoelastic theory. Rigorous application of finite-deformation magnetoelastic theory including the effect of the rotational component of the shear deformation leads to results which are in excellent agreement with experiment.
