Abstract
A chromosome analysis has been made of normal rabbits and those showing hereditary ataxia; spreads deriving from bone marrow aspirates were used. In all, 15 normal and 12 clinically ataxic animals were subjected to complete analysis. Of the normal animals, 7 were male and 8 female. Of the ataxic animals, 6 were male and 6 female. In addition, selected spreads were counted in 4 normal and 6 ataxic animals. A system of classifying chromosomes of the normal rabbit based on measurements of total length and arm: leg ratios is presented with statistical analysis of the data. Similar data collected from rabbits with hereditary ataxia do not show significant differences from the normal population. In particular, there was no evidence of mosaicism, translocation, or deletion of chromosome material. Keywords
