INHERITANCE OF ALLOZYME VARIANTS IN COASTAL DOUGLAS-FIR (PSEUDOTSUGA MENZIESII VAR. MENZIESII)

Abstract
The inheritance of 27 loci from 18 enzyme systems was investigated using both megagametophyte and embryo tissues of open pollinated seed collected from a natural stand of coastal Douglas-fir [P. menziesii var. menziesii (Mirb.) Franco]. Four enzyme systems (glutamate dehydrogenase, glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase, mannose-6-phosphate isomerase, and peptidase.sbd.apparently were monomorphic, and the remaining 14 systems.sbd.acid phosphatase (APH), aconitase (ACO), aspartate aminotransferase, diaphorase, esterase, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, hexoseaminidase, isocitrate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase, malic enzyme, phosphoglucose isomerase, phosphoglucomutase, 6-phosphogluconic dehydrogenase and superoxide dismutase) showed polymorphism. Each enzyme system is discussed with respect to its multilocus organization, subunit (quaternary) structure, and allelic variation.
