Abstract
Twenty-one ambulatory patients with mild to moderately severe arterial hypertension were treated, as part of a double-blind study, with benzydroflumethiazide as the sole antihyper- tensive agent. This produced a significant though modest reduction in mean systolic and diastolic blood pressures. It also produced substantial decreases in the concentrations of serum K and plasma Cl with a significant rise in the serum uric acid and the CO2 combining power of plasma. No change occurred in the level of serum Na, and only a slight increase was noted in the concentration of blood urea. Keywords
