Abstract
A new hybrid was produced from two Lathyrus species, L. chloranthus and L. chrysanthus, that have only recently become available for study. Attempts to cross these species with L. odoratus were unsuccessful. In all cross combinations pollen tubes were observed at micropyles. The morphology of the hybrid was compared with that of its parent. Although the karyotypes of the species was very similar, clear differences were seen in the C-banding pattern, and the meiotic behavior of the hybrid was highly irregular, with a high frequency of univalent formation. This, presumably, is the cause of the observed hybrid sterility. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
