Abstract
An investigation was carried out to compare the value of determinations of nuclear size and nuclear eccentricity in the cells of Langerhans'' islets, and a negative correlation was found between changes in size and in eccentricity. The usefulness of these methods in assessing changes in nuclear activity in [beta]- and [alpha] -cells was also examined, and it was found that the standard error of the single determination was smaller for determination of size than for determination of eccentricity. A size determination as a rule gave evidence of a change In nuclear activity sooner than an eccentricity determination, and in most cases the significance figures for the deviations were also higher. One exception to this rule was observed, however. Keywords
