Abstract
A method is de-scribed for the assay of steroid sulfate synthesis by soluble enzyme preparations from rat liver. The substrate used was dehydroepiandros-terone, but the method may be used with any suitable steroid as substrate. The properties of the enzyme system synthesizing dehydroepi-androsterone sulfate were identical with those of the system which synthesizes aryl sulfates, and the same enzyme system is probably involved in synthesis of both types of compound. The synthesis of dehy-droepiandrosterone sulfate was inhibited by m-aminophenol, cortisone, cortisone acetate and hydrocortisone, but not influenced by salicylates. The substrate specificity of the enzyme system was investigated and shown to be relatively low. An interpretation of the kinetic data is presented. Keywords
