Abstract
The anaphylactic and histamine response of the isolated guinea pig ileum were not affected by cortisone acetate, (1) subcut. 5 mg. /kg. daily for 20 days during the period of sensitization to horse serum, (2) 25 mg. intraperit. 4. 5 and 6. 5 hrs. before sacrifice, and (3) 1-5. 6 [mu]g. /ml. in vitro (ethyl alcohol vehicle). The Arthus reaction was not abolished by pro-longed admn. The data indicate no effect of cortisone on the level of tissue antibody, histamine sensitivity, and antigen-anti-body reaction of the Arthus type in guinea pigs. Ethyl alcohol 0. 8% usually abolished the anaphylactic response, without any effect on the antigen. Na salicylate 0. 1-1. 0 mg. /ml. in vitro appeared to prevent complete desensitization of the isolated guinea pig ileum. The histamine response was unaffected by the concns. of ethyl alcohol and Na salicylate used. Keywords
