Abstract
The lipids of bovine spermatozoa were separated into distinct classes with a silicic acid column and an elution method developed in the laboratory. The average total recovery of the lipids in 7 distinct classes was 96.5%. No unsaturated hydrocarbon were present. The total lipid content of bovine spermatozoa, on a freeze-dried basis, varied from 8.76 to 13.64% and averaged 11.05%. The major fraction (61%) of the lipids of these cells was a mixture of phospholipids. The qualitative and quantitative aspects of each class of lipids are discussed. Keywords
