Abstract
An expression for the frequency chirp to modulated power ratio (CPR) is derived from a rate equation analysis of the small-signal, injection current modulation in a semiconductor diode laser. The model includes the effect of lateral carrier diffusion across the active region of the laser diode. The modulation frequency dependence of the CPR is flat from dc to a few hundred megahertz, beyond which it is proportional to the modulation frequency. Keywords
