Abstract
Muscle extracts of 20 different spp. of fish were examined electrophoretically at 0.051, pH 7.5. Each spp. has a characteristic electrophoretic diagram, and considerable differences in mobility and composition exist between spp. The diagrams may be still divided into definite mobility groups of approx. consistent quantitative size. The diagrams of related spp. appear to be as dissimilar as those of unrelated spp. The effect of age and of spp. variants on the diagrams was examined. Elasmobranch muscle appears to contain proteins with unusually high isoelectric points. The question of the identity of components of different diagrams was discussed. Whatever the answer, it is certain that components which are present in some spp. are completely absent in others. Keywords
