Can the Impact of Ageing on Health Care Costs be Avoided?

Abstract
A rapid ageing of the population is taking place in all developed countries. In many countries, the number of those aged 75 years and over will double by the middle of the next century. The implications for health services, however, are unclear because of uncertainties about trends in health expectancy. In addition, there is considerable scope for the potentially large growth in the costs of care to be reduced through research-led innovation.
