Abstract
The erythrocyte uptake of labelled triiodothyronine in 54 normal individuals ranged from 6-10.5%, 14 of 16 hyperthyroid patients had elevated uptakes, and 4 of 8 hypothyroid patients had reduced uptakes. The uptake was reduced in 10 out of 12 pregnant women, in all 8 patients under stilbestrol medication and in 3 out of 7 patients with chronic hepatitis. The uptake was normal in 12 out of 13 individuals with non-toxic goiter, in 8 euthyroid thyroidectomized patients, in 4 euthyroid patients treated with desiccated thyroid and in 6 euthyroid hypermetabolic and 3 euthyroid hypometabolic patients.
