Abstract
During rapid phase of oxidation of palmitic acid by tuberculosis BCG,almost half the added substrate is assimilated inside the cells in the form of an acetone soluble neutral lipid. On alkaline hydrolysis palmitic acid is liberated. Esterification is suggested as the nature of the binding. Relatively low concns. of Na palmitate are toxic to the organism, the toxicity depending on the ratio of substrate to the cells, rather than on the absolute concn. in the medium. Keywords
