Abstract
NbO2 shows an apparently second order phase transformation at Tc ≃ 810°C, which coincides with anomalous changes in both electrical and magnetic properties. We summarize new neutron scattering measurements and discuss the nature of the structural distortions and the relation between the structural instabilities in the isoelectronic compounds VO2 and NbO2.Keywords
