Abstract
The matrix elements of the spin and orbital magnetic moment density operators are calculated using spherical tensors and racah algebra. The formulae are derived in the nusljm basis and supplementary results for the extension to the nusmslml representation are given. The simple relationship between magnetic moment density, scattering operator and intermediate scattering operator is investigated and a procedure for the transition from the intermediate scattering operator to the magnetic moment density is derived. The results are applied to fef2 as a specific example. Keywords
