Abstract
The optical absorption spectrum of NiPS3 in the energy range (0-5.4 eV) has been measured at 300, 78 and 4.2 K. The features observed in the spectrum have been interpreted in terms of transitions between the Ni2+ 3d levels and transitions between the S 3pxpy valence states and the Ni2+ 3d eg empty states. The Dq and B parameters have also been estimated. Keywords
