Abstract
Parameters of the low voltage arm for damped capacitive dividers operating in the multi-megavolt region are analyzed. The influence of the residual inductance of the capacitive and resistive elements of this arm on the overall divider performance is examined experimentally through application of a new measuring technique. The desirable low inductance of these elements is in contradiction to the required dielectric strength and thermal capacity. A new optimized design of the low voltage arm is presented which can be manufactured in a normal high voltage laboratory workshop. Keywords
