Evidence for Deformation Effect on the Giant Monopole Resonance

Abstract
The giant monopole resonance in the region of deformed nuclei has been investigated by inelastic scattering of 108.5 MeV at very small scattering angles. Evidence is reported for coupling between the giant monopole and giant quadrupole vibrations, based both on energy shift and transition strength.
