Abstract
A Narcissus tazetta L. alkaloid, pretazettine hydrochloride (PTZ), was active against spontaneous [mouse] AKR leukemia. The long-term treatment with PTZ beginning at 5-7 mo. of age of an AKR mice group containing 10-20% of advanced leukemic mice significantly prolonged the group''s life span. The therapeutic effectiveness of PTZ was compared with several standard antileukemic drugs. PTZ decreased the AKR virus titer in the circulating blood of mice and its antiviral activity in AKR virus infected mouse fibroblast NIH/3T3 cells was confirmed by XC [rat sarcoma cell] assay. Keywords
