Abstract
Small gas-evaporated cobalt particles (∼10–200 nm) have been studied in an electron microscope and a very regular twinning pattern consisting of parallel slices with a thickness of about 15–20 nm was observed. The slices themselves were sometimes also resolved into finer twins along different {111} planes at an angle to the slicing plane. The observations are discussed in terms of the martensitic transformation in cobalt and similarities and dissimilarities with other particle systems are pointed out. Keywords
