Abstract
The iodide ton was shown to be an effective promoter of leaf abscission when applied to the leaves or roots of plants. Sensitivity to iodide induced abscission varied greatly between different species. The abscission effect could be reversed by physically or chemically destroying the active terminal meristem. It could also be reversed by exogenous IAA applied to the leaves. The results were interpreted on the basis of a disruption in the normal auxin balance by the iodide ion. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
