Notizen: Nachweis von 3-Oxi-4.4′-dioxo-β-carotin in den Grünalgen Chlorococcum wimmeri und Haematococcus spec.

Abstract
A previously unknown carotinoid was isolated from C. wimmeri and Haematococcus sp. Green algae form oxocarotinoids preferentially in nitrogen deficiency. It was impossible to grow C. wimmeri free from oxocarotinoids even though adequate amounts of nitrogen were supplied. It is assumed that in spite of an adequate nitrogen supply a "physiological nitrogen deficiency" existed. Unknown factors possibly inhibit the absorption and utilization of the nitrogen supplied.
