Immediate Blood Cell Response to Epinephrine

Abstract
Leukocyte and erythrocyte changes in blood from the aorta, caudal vena cava, and right ventricle were studied in anesthetized dogs following the intraven. injn. of 500 [mu]g. of epinephrine. Nembutal did not affect the response. The mobilization of cells was completed within 2 min. Responses observed in various component areas suggested a temporary pooling of cells in the vascular bed. Leukocytes were contributed by the pulmonary system and leukocytes and erythrocytes were added from the splanchnic area. Evidence suggested that the response was not due to relative or absolute hemoconcentration.
