Abstract
Field tests with yellow sticky traps baited with 10% concentrations (wt/wt) of selected eugenol-related substances disclosed that two compounds, isoeugenol and 2-methoxy-4-propylphenol, were comparable in attractancy with eugenol to Diabrotica barberi Smith and Lawrence. Because the primary structural differences between the three lures lies only in the arrangement and degree of saturation of their hydrocarbon side chains, these characteristics did not seem to be factors in the degree of their attractancy to D. barberi. Similar compounds in which the methoxy and hydroxyl groups on the ring elements were replaced or rearranged, however, were not attractive to the insect.
