Abstract
Two novel naphthoxirene derivatives 1 and 2 their glucosides 3 and 4 have been isolated from the root bark of Sesamum angolense Welw. (Pedaliaceae) by preparative liquid chromatography. The structure of 1 was established by X‐ray diffraction analysis. The identities of the other naphthcxirenes were deduced by spectroscopic (IR, UV, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, EI‐MS, DCI‐MS) and chemical methods (oxidation, acid and enzymatic hydrolysis). Compounds 1–3 exhibited antifungal activity. Naphthoxirene 1 was, in addition, cytotoxic to human colon carcinoma cells. This publication has 15 references indexed in Scilit:
