Abstract
We report the first observation of a laser-induced transition in a fast beam. This new method has been applied to a measurement of the and hyperfine components of the fine-structure interval in heliumlike fluorine. The results are 953.60(3) and 961.77(3) , respectively. From these we extract the fine-structure splitting .
