Abstract
Dyadic algebra has been applied to the problem of propagation of an electromagnetic discontinuity in a general lossless anisotropic medium (ε̿ and μ̿ positive definite symmetric dyadic quantities). It is seen that the wave normal and ray equations and, hence, the equations of the wave normal and ray surfaces, take a coordinate‐independent explicit form. The optical axes of the medium are also discussed. Keywords
