Abstract
Cinefluorographic pharyngeal airway diameter measures made during speech samples obtained from 58 children were used to compare subjects with normal palates, persons with obturated palates, and persons with surgically repaired palates or palatal inadequacy. Measures of mean and maximum pharyngeal airway size and range of antero-posterior tongue motion showed no significant differences. The members of the subgroup which included both repaired and inadequate palates were inferior in articulation and palato- pharyngeal closure to other group members. Keywords
