Inhibition of Oral Spirochetes by Antibiotic Agents in Vitro

Abstract
Several antibiotics were tested for in vitro inhibition of growth of 3 strains each of Borrelia vincentii and small oral treponemes. The effective concn. ranges in a modified Huntoon''s hormone broth were: penicillin G 0.05 U./ml., bacitracin 0.05-0.25 U./ml., aureomycin and chloramphenicol 0.25-1.5 ug./ml., streptomycin 1-10 ug./ml., tyrothricin 5-20 ug./ml., lupulon 40-100 ug./ml., and notatin 1000-4000 U./ml. H2O2 and sulfarsphenamine were also active at 50-100 ug./ml.
