Abstract
The use of phosphotungstate staining and electron microscopic examination of particulate fractions isolated from cellular homogenates is advocated as a method for differentiation of membraneous material. The test material used was isolated from particles of cauliflower buds. Mitochondrial cristae are distinguished by 100 A knob structures. These provide quick identification of mitochondrial fragments. Several other membrane types are distinguishable in the microsomal fractions. The characteristic appearance of each of these membrane types in phosphotungstic acid stain will aid in the isolation and identification of these structures. Keywords
