Liver Biopsy in Sarcoidosis

Abstract
Other authors have previously indicated that liver biopsy is of value in providing material whereby a histological diagnosis of sarcoidosis can be made. Characteristic findings are frequently present in cases with features of the disease. By contrast, in cases with active pulmonary tuberculosis, no specific changes have been found in the liver. The authors report 3 cases of clinical sarcoidosis with positive lesions in the liver. A 4th case is reported in which sarcoid-like lesions were unexpectedly found on liver biopsy. Since liver biopsy by a proper technic is safe, it forms a useful addition to routine methods of diagnosis in sarcoidosis.
