Abstract
The arylsulfatase activity has been studied of 46 cultures of acid-fast bacilli, representing strains of M. avium and unclassified Group III nonphotochromogens. It has been shown that avian tubercle bacilli may be distinguished readily from Battey strains on the basis of their arylsulfatase activity following two weeks'' incubation in the presence of substrate.
