Abstract
The dispersion curves of the p(3×1)O-Ag(110) surface phonon modes along the 〈001〉 direction have been measured by inelastic He-beam scattering and compared with the results of lattice-dynamical calculations assuming different surface structures. The combined experimental-theoretical approach gives a strong suggestion for a missing-row-type reconstruction of the substrate. This, together with the previous results on the p(2×1)O phase, points to surface restructuring as a common feature for all the p(n×1)O phases chemisorbed on Ag(110).Keywords
