Abstract
This research organizes resident reactions to tourism in the context of a theoretical paradigm based on the principles of social exchange theory. A path model based on social exchange theory principles explains how residents weigh and balance seven factors that influence their support for tourism. The analysis demonstrates that potential for economic gain, use of the tourism resource, ecocentric attitude, and attachment to the community affect resident perceptions of the impacts and modify, both directly and indirectly, resident support for tourism. Keywords
