Smoldering Acute Leukemia

Abstract
WE have recently seen a number of patients with acute leukemia of an atypical variety that has received little attention in the literature. These cases smolder along with low-grade clinical intensity for a period of months to years. They may continue in this fashion until death occurs from infection or other complications, or they may burst forth into a more typical picture of acute leukemia. During the smoldering phase the diagnosis may be obvious or occult.
