Depression of Milk Secretion during Insulin Administration

Abstract
Long-acting insulin was injected intramuscularly twice a day into cows. Their daily milk yield and plasma glucose concentration both decreased. Glucose was then infused intravenously while the insulin injections were continuing. When the plasma glucose was restored to a normal level, the milk secretion returned to the pretreatment rate. These observations suggest that hypoglycemia is a more direct cause of hypogalactia than is insulin.
