Abstract
Twenty-four new alkoxyphenyl N-methylcarbamates were prepared and evaluated as insecticides against the house fly (Musca domestica L.), mosquito larva (Culex quinquefasciatus Say), salt-marsh caterpillar (Estigmene acrea (Drury)) and citrus red mite (Panonychus citri (McG.)). Many of the compounds were highly insecticidal and the o- and m-ethoxy-, o- isopropoxy-, m-propoxy, 3,4-methylenedioxy-, 2,5-dimethoxy-, and 3,5-dimethoxyphenyl N-methylcarbamates were most active. The latter two compounds showed the highest toxicity and knockdown activity to the house fly. The compounds of this class were markedly synergized by piperonyl butoxide. Keywords
